Community Composting with New Orleans Public Library

Description

DID YOU KNOW: Americans throw out over 36 million tons of food waste each year. Once in landfills, food breaks down to produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas which contributes to climate change.

Now, you can bring your frozen food scraps to our weekly food waste drop-off locations at New Orleans Public Library and Schmelly’s Dirt Farm will pick it up and turn it into nutrient-rich compost!

PLEASE FREEZE YOUR FOOD SCRAPS - no smell, no fruit flies, no rodents

We will accept fruit and vegetable scraps (peels, skins, pits or seeds), tea bags and coffee grounds (including paper filter), eggshells, nutshells, seed shells; plain bread, grains and pasta (no toppings).

Please bring in a paper or compostable bag, or a reusable container.

NO MEAT, NO DAIRY, NO BONES, NO OILY FOODS.

Questions? Want to volunteer? Email lynneserpe.nola@gmail.com or find us on Facebook.

*No drop-offs when library is closed for holidays (Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving/Eve, Christmas). No drop-offs on Saturday, September 2 or Saturday, December 23.

PLEASE ONLY DROP-OFF DURING PROGRAM HOURS.

Every Wednesday.
